The PhotoHunt theme this week is "Rock"
A couple of years ago, MJ and I attended a Hindu wedding. At one point in the ceremony, the bride places her foot on a rock, illustrating her promise to be the rock, the foundation of their home (I forgot what he's supposed to be doing there). I've always thought of it more as her demonstration that she's putting her foot down. ;-)

I didn't know that.....
An interesting tradition, with either explanation:)
Happy weekend and thanks for visiting mine.
Yes, I agree, she's definitely putting her foot down. And the hubby better know his place ;-)
Have a great weekend!
Someone has to wear the rock in the family....
That is fascinating. Thanks for sharing this traditional rock.
Ya, but not to impugn the Hindu traditions, I would say 'putting your foot down' is a good interpretation.
My rocks are now posted. Won't you try to stop by to view my photos today? Have a great weekend.
Wow, this is a unique entry :)
Ah yes, the latter thought is the one we, too, think more appropriate...
great choice for todays theme!
What a wonderful take on the theme. I didn't know that before now. Have a great weekend
Nice information and nice shot. But, your interpretation of the ritual is GREAT!

interesting one.
mine is up too
An interesting custom that could have a few interpretations. As the woman gives birth to her family, she becomes the rock, the original foundation! Great photo!
Very interesting ritual act -- and heheh re your 'take' on it! ;b
Interesting piece of trivia, and a good take on the theme. :)
Very interesting take on this week's theme. It's fun to learn something new.
My rocks are here.
I knew you'd come up with a great rock!
What an interesting ritual and great for the theme!
What a neat photo! And I like your "putting her foot down" interpretation better. Hahaha!
thanks for posting this, now i learned something new about other culture. :)
I love the foot on the rock...then you can always yell, "I put my foot on the rock for you!" if needed.
Are those rose petals getting strewn upon her foot on the rock?
Cat lady is indeed still on the Cape....away from the crazyness of P-Town and out in Truro with the old folk!
what an interesting post for the theme. happy PH!
So you managed to cover "rock" in two different ways and make me feel all exotic at the same time. Impressive.
There you are! I went through the old comments looking for the link to you, but kept getting distracted. I'm glad you said something. It makes me think I should keep doing what I do with Jack and Jill.
