PhotoHunt: Purple

The PhotoHunt theme this week is "Purple"

And now, for the extreme purple close-up:

Come on, don't be shy - click on it to see what I see!

This is one of my favorite Vanda-type orchids that I attached to a tree in my backyard. Contrary to most orchid-fanciers (who are absolutely horrified when I say this) , I preach the philosophy of "benign neglect" in their care. If you live in a relatively warm area, like I do, water them occasionally and leave 'em alone. It's when I fuss, that I kill them. Nature will usually find a way.

Wow - still super clear even when close up! If you didn't use a tripod, you must have wonderfully steady hands! ;b

I would love to have these orchids in my garden but the afternoon sun won't allow it. Nice phot by the way.

What a beautiful orchid! I would love to have an orchid hanging in a tree in my garden...*smile*! But unfortunately the climate does not allow that. Mine are hanging from the ceiling in the orangerie during the summer.
Have a great weekend!

Your orchid care philosophy is very inspiring for me to hear because I am guilty of totally neglecting any plant that I'm "caring" for!

I should photograph more flowers then I would not be stuck for a colour every week with Blue's theme.
Yours is a lovely choice.

There's no way I could have orchids here without a lot of fussing, though the house is pretty warm at the moment.

Those are gorgeous!
I've always heard that orchids are hard to grow. If benign neglect is needed, I might could handle that!

That is a beautiful orchid. Such a soft color, and the detail in the close up is amazing. Orchids are such blatantly sexual flowers, aren't they?

I played too. http://healingmagichands.wordpress.com/2009/04/18/photohunt-158-purple/

Oh I love purple flowers, very lovely. Here's mine http://www.mirasblog.com/2009/04/photo-hunt-13-purple.html

How are you dear? I've been busy, have house guests so didn't play last week.

That flower close up is absolutely incredible! I have to agree with you on the "take care of it, it dies, leave it alone, it survives" philosophy. My hunt is up, please come and visit

Beautiful! When I enlarged it, I loved seeing the sparkly texture of the petals. And the tiny little face.

I thought it might be an orchid. Orchids are so luscious, aren't they?

I don't know orchids at all - only the small wild variety we get here.
I was given an orchid on mothers day that looks like this but much paler. There were no care instructions and not even a name! Now, thanks to you and this gorgeous photo, I have something to wiki.
Thank you very much!

I wish i can do that type of care to our orchids. Unfortunately, they easily die on me.

I love these orchids, and have never seen them in this color. In Florida they have humid heat, but I think (?) it may kill 'em when I put them in our back yard in California, because we have dry heat? Let me know if you think I ought to try it!
