PhotoHunt: Protect(ion)
The PhotoHunt theme this week is "Protect(ion)"
This female Rubythroat Hummingbird is enjoying the "Protection" of this White Orchid tree. Feel free to click on the image for a better look.
In between feeding at the flowers and nectar feeders, hummingbirds will periodically fly up to a protected high branch of a nearby tree or other perch, to observe their surroundings and scan for predators and other potential dangers.
This photo was taken this past January in my backyard. Now that spring is here, the hummingbirds have migrated North again, and won't return until the fall. I explain the irony in my Nature Notes post over at Flamingo Musings. Please stop by if you get a chance!
Happy Weekend, All!

What a lovely photo, it was a good thing you were able to take a photo of the bird :)
Nice composition for that shot! :)
It's great that you manage to take such a nice shot. I wonder why I could get a closer shot all the time.

Great photo! And nice take on the theme.
Happy weekend.
I'm not used to seeing them land.
Lovely framing... I guess if they have left your area, they must be on the way to our place. We should be seeing them already, but it has been cool.
I love hummingbirds but rarely see them.
I like how you were able to frame the hummingbird in the branches. Great composition and a good choice for the theme.
Mine is posted here.
What a wonderful shot. I have never seen a hummingbird in the flesh (or feather?) Happy weekend
Good one - it rather looks as if this theme will be diverse.
That's a beautiful bird, no questions.
Have a great weekend!
I love how you've frame it!
Such a delicate bird and I love the beak! Great capture!
Stop by and see mine if you have the chance.

Nice take on this week's theme. Great capture on the little hummingbird... beautiful!
I love this shot. Hummingbirds are so hard to shoot because they move so fast. You did a great job and this was a good take on the theme.
i love hummingbirds, great take on the theme
I have never seen a hummingbird that looks like that before! I wonder why no hummingbirds visit my yard? Maybe we do not have the right kind of trees for them. That tree looks pretty!
What a beautiful photo!
Have a nice weekend.
A hummingbird is a rare sighting. Beautiful photo!
Nice interpretation of this week's theme ;)
I just saw two hummingbirds this morning here in Michigan...time to get my feeder out! I love your photo sweetie! Thank you for visiting my hunt!
Beautiful picture!
Lovely photo. I have never seen a hummingsbird. Nice take for this week's theme.
Just wonderful...so neat that you caught it being still. =]
That's an amazing shot! Love it!
Beautiful shot. It is hard to get good hummingbird pictures because of their penchant for not sitting still.
That is a beautiful photo. Thanks for sharing.
Blessings

Nice entry. I guess the leaves of the tree do protect the birds.
