PhotoHunt: Advertisement

The PhotoHunt theme this week is "Advertisement"

That sea life mural is painted on the back of the Macy's department store building in downtown Miami. It was supposed to be an advertisement for the pleasures of visiting Miami. No one is really quite sure why it shows frolicking whales. Which don't live around here. Unless you visit the Seaquarium. Really. And yes, it is a little vague, which is kind of the point. Artistic license, I guess, but I remember when it was done, we all gathered around, stared at it for a bit, and said (with nearly one voice) "Whales?"

If you look closely, you'll see the Metromover and tracks running alongside it. The station opens directly into the second floor of the Macy's. Convenient when it's raining, as it was when I shot this photo. :-)

Well, I didn’t win, but my recipes ranked 5th & 6th in the Ile de France contest. WooHoo! Thanks to everybody who voted for me!

It may be unclear what is being advertised but it is a brilliant mural.

A great idea - take the Metro straight to the store - ideal for those of us with bad knees !!

Well it's a lovely mural but wouldn't know what they are advertising for if I saw it! It does make the sky look blueer. LOL

Enjoy your weekend!

Maybe to make the commuters stop, relax and they just might get inside Macy's.

Sometimes you wonder whether anyone at the ad agency did their homework.

I noticed one this evening on a brochure for boat tours along the Rideau Canal. The logo is a leaping dolphin.

You have to wonder. No... we do not have dolphins in this neck of the works, leaping or otherwise. They would freeze to death.

I see it now....I disabled my advertisement block and it loaded. Must be the title of your image. [advert01] that is making my plugin not allowing it to load.

Love the mural, love whales, I would like that in my bedroom ;)

maybe it is the intention - the contrast to win the attention of the department store's customers?

We have a mural a lot like that where I live in NW Florida too. No whales here either. Fun pic for the week though.

Congrats on the recipes contest too.

The subject matter is funny. It's like, hey we're next to the ocean, there are whales out there somewhere! Nice looking photo.

That looks like a cool mural. Great idea for the theme and it is funny about them choosing whales.

I like advertisements that are real pretty and subtle like that. Usually they are so garish!

srp said...

Perhaps they imported the artist from the west coast... say.. Alaska? It seems that dolphins or manatee would have worked! Or sharks.. but that might not bring the warm and fuzzy feeling they were looking for!

It may be a great mural, but if I were the advertiser, I'd be unhappy with the general reaction.

Congrats on the recipe!

It's beautiful although we do not always understand what the painters are trying to express here. :P

Please do drop in my blog to help me in a proper advertisement for a better cause. :)
